This collection, portraying major works from Africa, Oceania, America and Asia, takes us straight to the heart of primal arts. The films reveal the imagination of the various peoples, providing another perspective on the world, via the various myths that bring their works to life. They also provide keys to understanding the objects’ usages, their history and the traditional artistic issues that surround them.

ARTE now devotes a second DVD to the primal arts, with documentary studies of objects from Africa, Oceania, the Americas, and Asia. Each film tells the story of one work, giving us the keys to its creation and use, as well as the traditional and contemporary artistic issues contextualizing it, revealing the imagination of a people : another vision oh the world here and there.
